Mount Auburn Cemetery
We invite you to visit Jamie’s memorial at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, MA.
This historic cemetery, founded in 1831, held a special place in Jamie’s heart and ours. Its paths and bucolic landscapes make it a place where you can spend time outdoors and feel connected to the natural world.
When we visit, we often think about the springtime trips we took there with Jamie and Bisi when they were young — especially when the blue scilla flowers blanketed the ground beneath the oak and beech trees. Those memories stay with us.
Jamie’s memorial is a place to pause, to remember him, and to be outside in a setting he would have loved.
We miss him deeply. But his love for life, his kindness, and his sense of humor remain very much with us.
If you choose to visit, we hope you’ll take your time, walk the grounds, and experience this beautiful setting — the kind of place where Jamie felt at home.

Jamie’s memorial was carved from Vermont green slate by the artist Andrew Carr.
Katie found the quote on the pediment of the chapel at Middlebury College, which looks out toward the Adirondacks in one direction and the Green Mountains in the other. The line of mountains etched into the stone traces the outline of the Great Range in the Adirondacks.
We worried at times that we were taking too long to choose a memorial. It’s a process that makes something unreal feel very real, and it’s easy to put it off.
In the end, we waited, and everything came together in a way that feels right. Katie found the quote while touring Middlebury, and Mark discovered Andrew shortly thereafter.
